Winning entry!!

1. International Nobody

The rule I live and create work by: 'Chaos presides over all; remember that and everything else is a cake walk.'

Artist Profile: East London based screen-printer and illustrator, International Nobody, creates vibrant, chaotic and bold imagery in a style that the artist describes as 'low-brow', 'subversive' and 'infantile'. Comic book monsters, femme fatales and creatures that attract & repulse frequently appear in International Nobody's work, and of late: the Ebisu inspired piece that also features some elements that represent things Evisu founder, Yamane Hidehiko holds dear; golf balls, beer bottle caps, fish and bait. Regarding the brief, the artist has commented; "The rule I live and create work by is that 'Chaos presides over all' Remember that and everything else is a cake walk.'

2. AARGH

Only rules that one cannot disobey are the rules of nature. This is a painting of my interpretation of a spirit of nature, not a god or ruler, but keeper of the forest.

I have chosen a natural plywood sheet instead of traditional canvas to express the nature theme much more. The painting is done by three water based acrylic paints, the blue (representing the color of denim) and a touch or red and white (representing EVISU's most famous red/white selvedge). The painting was not coated and will age with its years, which is a reference to the way raw denim ages.

3. ChiChi

This is old Osaka landscape. Sumo rules are intertwined with pop culture from the west, Japanese God Ebisu, the Japanese sun symbol, monochrome landscape, all the rules of ancient Japan and their habits. Mixed media on canvas 32 x 46 in 2011 by Edgar 'ChiChi' Gomez. Sofia, Bulgaria.

4. NICK J BROWN

My piece of work was simply inspired by Ebisu the Japanese god of prosperity (he makes the rules). It’s my take on him as a character using vibrant colors. I have also created a tessellated style pattern for the background using a decayed EVISU logo creating a vintage look, relating to the vintage denim EVISU produces. It creates a very subtle yet stylish backdrop to complement the Ebisu character.

5. MONOGRAPHIZ

New evolution for the next generation.

6. MRFIEND

Let your imagination make the rules.

7. YUNK

The Rules are made by New World Order. Everyday as we know it is controlled by the mighty Dollar. We all struggle everyday to earn those bills to make our pockets full. That’s the way of rules…that’s the way of freedom these days. The actual execution is made on denim canvas with glued custom dollars.

8. trousers86

In dreams we're free to make the rules... and break 'em too.
