Evisu Cube Gallery - China Chapter Exhibition

In November 2007 the Evisu Cube Gallery went to . To celebrate the spirit of artistic talent in , 48 local artists in different art forms (including graphic designers, illustrators, fashion designers, sculptors, singers, architects, photographers etc.) were invited to participate in the Evisu Cube Gallery - Chapter. Recruited in August 2007, each collaborator was given a pack containing Evisu denim and fabric, as well as extra “parts” such as buttons, rivets, labels and tags. They used the items to create a one-off “art piece” to fit a cube display box. There were no rules and the only limit is imagination — except that (1) use at least one Evisu “part,” and (2) must fit in the cube (cube sized 34cm x 34cm x 34cm). The 48 original creations collectively made up a special touring group exhibition.

The Evisu Cube Gallery project was inspired by the Japanese “Cube Gallery.” In post-modern Tokyo and , the thrives in arcades and alleyways lit by the glow of Pachinko machines and late-night clubs. Evisu Cube Gallery - China Chapter

cube gallery art
On March 30th 2006 Evisu organized an art exhibition in the Evisu Paris store based on the Japanese concept of “cubicle gallery”. Art was created in tiny boxes acting as miniature art spaces. We approached about thirty young artists, stylists and other creators, supplied them with Evisu denim and asked them to make a doll for the Evisu Gallery. Following from the success of this, another Cube Gallery was opened in Hong Kong to critical acclaim showcasing some 48 local artists.

Continuing the Evisu Cube Gallery tradition of supporting the arts, Evisu will exhibit in with local artists contributing to the project, with the pieces being auctioned at the end. Proceeds of the art piece sales will be donated to the children’s charity Care For Children. The exhibition opening will be held on 9th November at the Evisu Xintiandi Specialty Store in .

We hope to see you there!

Evisu Cube Gallery

Evisu amassed the talents of 48 local Hong Kong artists to participate in their Cube Gallery. The Cube Gallery was an idea inspired by the post-modern displays of art seen in Tokyo and , where unconventional locations add to the allure of art as they battle side by side amidst the noise of pachinko machines and the shadows cast by clubs. Each was given these few guidelines to follow: Their piece had to incorporate denim, it must have included at least one “Evisu” element and the piece had to fit in a box with 36cm x 36cm x 36cm dimensions. In addition to denim, the artists were given other parts used in the creation of denim including buttons, rivets, labels and tags.

In the final week, each piece was available for auction in increments of $100 at starting prices listed by the artists. All proceeds were to benefit the Hong Kong Children’s Cancer Foundation.
