The international fashion pack gathered in the magnificent Palazzo Visconti to see Evisu’s AW08 edgy and wearable collection, inspired by the theme ‘Fighting for Japan’. The collection is the most exciting and dramatic to date consisting of Evisu’ trademark collections; Deluxe, Heritage and Mainline each taking on their own interpretation of the theme.
Evisu Deluxe is inspired by the Wartime Prints by Mr. Kiyochika Kobayashi of 1894-95, as seen in a double breasted coat made by the official fabric that was used in the war in the late 1800’s. Along with suits, coats, ties and silk cotton shirts, Deluxe introduces the ‘Finest Jeans Ever Made’. Each pair is individually sewn from start to finish by one machinist using only a single-needle sewing machine and then personally signed on the label.
Heritage looks to its proud ancestry of the Samurai Warriors who ferociously defended Japan from its enemies. The jeans, t-shirts and sweaters took on true vintage letterman appliqués giving the Japanese theme a sporting twist.
Mainline was inspired by the theme of “One night in Tokyo” and is based on the underground and dark side of the city. Shirts and t-shirts are embroidered and printed with bullet holes, the Evisu smiley face and two faces godhead tee. These are combined with vintage jeans for the perfect Tokyo look.

This Autumn/Winter ‘07 season Evisu celebrates where East meets West showcasing classic Japanese looks with an American rock ‘n roll attitude. The women’s collection includes Janis Joplin inspired feather jackets and leather cigarette jeans followed by a chrysanthemum knitted jacquard kimono dress. The men’s collection followed suit with an indigo dyed karate jacket over a skinny silk tie and bespoke tailored trousers. Throughout all of the collection is the vintage inspired Evisu selvedge denim featured in dungarees, jackets, and jeans.

In our Fall 07 collection, Evisu found enlightening inspiration in the ancient Daruma dolls of Takasaki’s Shorinzan Daruma Temple.
Daruma’s are round, hollow Japanese wish dolls in the shape of an egg. They are a symbolic representation of Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk and founder of the art of Zen. According to legend, Bodhidharma lost his limbs while attaining this pure Zen state, therefore the doll is lacking limbs as well.
The dolls are most commonly red but can also be found in yellow, green and white. Their painted faces feature a mustache and beard, skillfully brushed to resemble Bodhidharma. Using black ink or paint, one fills in a single, circular eye while thinking of a wish, and, should the wish become realized, the second eye can be happily filled in.
Because of their low center of gravity, the Daruma doll returns to its upright position after being tilted on its side. As such, the doll has become a symbol for optimism, persistence and strong determination. The dolls can be found throughout our Heritage line ranging from direct appearances on sweatshirts to stylized versions on our children’s clothing.
Look out for the Darumas in across the Men’s and Women’s Heritage lines.

The Evisu Fall 2007 men’s and women’s wear collection will debut for the first time in New York City at Bryant Park’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week . The Collection will include ready-to-wear, couture and denim lines. For the fall, Evisu designers were inspired by twentieth century Japan, and the merging of the East and the West. Materials and motifs include Japanese silks and luxurious loomed cottons in both classical and modern prints tailored in unique modern forms and volumes, and combine with expert Savile Row tailoring.
