The jeans are being painted by “Mr Kobayashi Evisu No1 Paint Writer!” in the Evisu store in Osaka, Japan. Mr Kobayashi teaches the other shop staff to paint and is considered Yamane’s most trusted painter and Evisu maniac. The jeans that are being painted are Deluxe prototypes for SS08 and were painted as a special souvenir. The purple colour paint is “Osaka Purple” which they only paint in Osaka shops (Tokyo has navy blue, and other stores have unique colors), and the characters on the right pocket say Osaka. The video is better than watching paint dry!

Evisu understands that good things come to those wear in their denim. Luckily, we’re not the only ones. Spurred by curiosity on what a pair of raw denim jeans would look like after 13 months of continuous use, denim lover Cheep, decided to gather his comrades from Supertalk for a heartfelt “Dirty Dozen + 1″ denim experiment.
You can see some of the members as well as fans here at the Dirty Dozen + 1 launch party hosted by Evisu at our New York showroom in conjunction with top denim shop, Blue in Green, and thankfully sponsored by Japan’s Kirin beer.
Also have a look at some pics of the hand painting of the jeans at Blue In Green, as well as a video of Pesu painting the jeans.
Many thanks to the DD+1 members, Kirin, Blue In Green, and all the denim lovers that attended for a fun night!

The art of Zen has been around a little longer than the art of bespoke tailoring, but both aim to uphold a tradition rich in culture. For this reason, the Daruma doll is prominently featured in the window of Evisu’s Saville Road store in London.
Daruma doll comes from the depiction of Bodhidharma, who was the father and founder of Zen, and symbolizes optimism and determination. Having the Daruma dolls in the window not only brings hope for the future but adds a bit of character to the street known for it’s fine tailoring.
In Japanese, men’s suiting is known as sebiro, pronounced “sey-b-row,” which is a japonification of the famous street’s name. Evisu is known for it’s quality denim, but before Hideheko Yamane became the denim maniac he is now, he was first and foremost a tailor.
Come and visit us and see the Daruma window and the AW07 Daruma influenced collection at 9 Savile Row, London.
